My kids are at an amazing neighborhood public school and they are surrounded by extremely dedicated teachers and parent volunteers. One of which spearheaded this week’s Used Book Fair. It’s brilliant. All of the items are donated, and all of the proceeds go straight to the school. Kids read, school earns money. WIN.
Books make me so darn happy. I keep telling myself that I am going to switch from paper to my iPad, or perhaps a Kindle or nook. It hasn’t happened, yet. There is something about the smell of the paper, and the history in the pages.
I walked around the tables wondering where these books came from, and where they are headed. I almost bought back some of the books that I donated because it was hard enough saying goodbye the first time around. I love my novels.
I watched the students peruse the choices with such excitement and then it hit me. What if we really do become a paperless society? Will a book fair (particularly a used book fair) become something of the past? How utterly sad.

I wear my mom badge with pride, but it doesn’t mean I have to check my cool factor at the door. I love great music, amazing books, handmade toys, and sharing it all with you. Contact me at
I love the idea of a used book fair! I am an L.A. mom with a child about to start K at a really great neighborhood public school (valley view) – I am just curious where is your kid’s school that had this great idea? I’m always curious about other great lausd schools.
